NEW YORK FASHION WEEK SPRING 2011 - Derek Lam

Minimalism is the watchword in this New York Fashion Week and Derek Lam is no exception. But the Derek's minimalism was ultrarefined and the elegance is an order to carry serious. I LOVED  the trim A-line suede skirts, poplin blouses and the great outerwear, including a fabulous canvas trench with a swingy ruffled drape in the back.

n fact, the collection offered plenty of back interest throughout — ruffled peplums, flyaway backs and cape effects. His paper-thin silk cashmere sweater, thrown over a pleated skirt, had an elegant, asymmetric swallowtail hem. Evening stuck to a daywear vibe — purposely so, noted Lam. While the breezy print dresses didn’t bring much to the table, his sleek all-white finale gowns were the perfect punctuation to the show.

But what I loved most in Derek Lam Spring 2011 collection was the denim series... after all I am a denim addict. I total agree that denim is not a "thing" to show in runways but Derek Lam could, of course. Lam elevates denim to another level. I'm sure Derek Lam is the one that can make a haute couture dress in denim!
