NEW YORK FASHION WEEK SPRING 2011 - Carolina Herrera

Carolina Herrera's program notes explained that Spring was inspired by two things: the traditional clothes of Korea, and botanical plates collected in the eighteenth century. For me Carolina Herrera was inspired in strong women whose fancy style became iconic like Grace Kelly, Martha Graham, Edith Piaf, Virgina Wolf, Anna Pavlova, Frida Kahlo... This Herrera's Spring 2011 will be very dramatic indeed!

Look at the tall, wide-brimmed straw hats (customarily worn by men in Korea) and you can see that this collection haven't anything about the elegant simplicity tipical of others collections, it's a much more intricate and dramatic "thing" with rich details. The evening dresses were gorgeous, that's long been a Herrera signature. I loved the flower prints complete with calligraphy detailing the plant's name and origins.
