LONDON FASHION WEEK SPRING 2011- Marios Schwab

It was Today at 10 am, it happened one of most anticipated fashion shows at London Fashion Week: Marios Schwab Spring 2011 collection.

Inspired by biker grunge and the film Transylvania, Marios Schwab put Smells Like Teen Spirit on the soundtrack – followed by Springsteen’s I’m On Fire later on – bewigged his models to channel Joan Jett and sent out a refreshingly new idea for spring/summer 2011 this morning.

Lingerie-style, lace-edged dresses in pale pink and green were slashed with tattoo scribbles or worn with brown leather harnesses, their flimsy ribbon straps meshed across bare backs that were occasionally interrupted with a neon strip.

Jersey long-sleeved tops and leggings featured the same tattoo markings, while black lace inserts appeared within slashed silk dresses and leather mini dresses also had black stretch inserts at the bust.

The neon trend was alluded to via an acid turquoise silk, while more leather trousers were nicely tailored to three-quarter length. Taken out of the context of the show they’ll be very elegant but here they added to the hard versus soft, girlie seductress versus rock ‘n’ roll chick to create a rigorous and distinct message.

Dresses with necklines scooped wide enough to show off collar bones to their best advantage were cut close to the body, with some that will be plain pretty once the leather’s left aside. Schwab, now the creative director of Halston – its ceo Bonnie Takhar was in the front row supporting him – proved that he’s more than adept at doing two things at once.
