Gossamer eyes and frenetic curls at Marc Jacobs' Spring 2011 fashion show at New York Fashion Week matched the larger-than-life flowers and fancy flounces the designer imbued in his collection. The look was a little bit flapper, a little bit '70s glam, and a whole lot gorgeous (http://www.stylist.com/ ).
With this Spring 2011 collection, Marc Jacobs had left the fifties and sixties behind the Vuitton's show for Fall and walked out into the louche, liberated seventies.
In the '70s, we copied the '30s," said hairstylist Guido Palau in Marc Jacobs' backstage. A kind of"Afro-meets-Eton inspired in Grace Coddington frizz, theVogue's longtime creative director.
The heavy eye makeup that called to mind the imagery of Guy Bourdin.
Jacob's Spring 2011 look is all about '70s glamour with a touch of '30s louche. A glam look, inspired by Anjelica Huston, Donna Mitchell, Pat Cleveland, but with a modern twist.
This Spring 2011 collection is also full of the New York Dolls and Yves Saint Laurent references.
The show was pure '70s, recalling Bianca Jagger and Jodie Foster from Taxi Driver — all wide-legged trousers, frizzy hair, with oversized flower corsages and gold glitter platforms.
There was an ode to Missoni's zigzag knits...
... and voluminous peasant dresses with a Rive Gauche air.
Marc Jacobs said he wanted to celebrated everything that made him fall in love with fashion... and we thank!
