One Character Sheet To Rule Them All, First Page

Uff..! InDesign is such great software, although I think, after the first two days of use, I still have much to learn about it. Anyway, this is by far the best character sheet I've ever made! Sorry it's in italian.

Later today I'll be working on page two: equipment, henchmen/familiar/animal companion, special class abilities (thieves/clerics abilities) and generic notes (inheritance, magic stuff, etc.) Page three and on will be dedicated to spellbook.

One Character Sheet To Rule Them All

I'm sorry for the lack of posts lately, but I'm studying like crazy and working like a mad man on a second edition character sheet for the ongoing, monthly campaign. I was never able to make a pleasing second edition character sheet, nor to use the official ones (I own a couple of them, and they are beautiful, but I wanted something to print rather than photocopy – and yes, specialists call this "Compulsive Disorder"), and finally InDesign opened up to me a whole new universe! You know, I've used it for two days and I'm asking myself "how could I live so long without it?!". Trust me, it's terrific. This is what I've done so far – I hope to finish the first page tonight. Sorry about the italian, but I think you can guess what I wrote:

yay, almost empty

On a footnote, kids are playing in the garden just outside my window. Their squeaky little voices are driving me completely mad – FOR JESUS'S SAKE STOP CRYING. ARGH.

B/X Dungeons & Dragons Character Record Sheet

I was struck by the absolute lack of italian character record sheets for Basic D & D. Therefore, after the good success of my previously published Humanspace Empire Character Record Sheet, this morning I made a new one for B/X D&D. I decided to keep the Futura font, for it looks pretty good and it's very readable. On the design side, I decided to make more space for Special Class Skills and Spells, but I've eliminated the Saving Throws. I know this could prove to be kind of a problem for more experienced players, but I made this Character Sheet especially for my upcoming birthday party, and I didn't wanted to have my players puzzled by whatever Save vs. Rod and Staff could mean. The download link for the english and italian versions are under the preview.

Humanspace Empires Character Sheet

I have just sent the Goblin to Ramsey, and now I'm here to restore balance to Karma. So all you guys in the blogosphere sector of Procyon now get a new, shiny, ready-to-print and use Humanspace Empires Character Sheet! For those of you who live in trees and actually have no idea of what I'm talking about, Humanspace Empires is the best upcoming Science Fantasy project on the net. Forget Stars Without a Number, embrace your Sub-atomic Disintegrator Rifle and go shoot some motherfucking demon in the outer space!! Here is a little preview – the download link is at the bottom of this post:

Being a character sheet addict, I often find it very frustrating working on my own, since I never quite reach my expectations. Working on this sheet was definitely different stuff. The Drune has done some really outstanding work with layout and particularly the choice of artwork, and it was great fucking fun to work on it. I have kept the header font (Para Aminobenzoic, as MyFont kindly pointed me to) but used Futura for the main body, for it really evoked in me a sense of Metamorphosis Alpha and Gamma World. The pictures are all from my most favorite science fiction comic ever, El Eternauta by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López, which I used to read when I was about six, and I think they perfectly capture the feeling of Humanspace Empires. So, without further self-glorification, here you are!

Original Edition Character Record Sheets

I use to be a game supplies fetishist, so I occasionally browse the net from time to time looking for interesting pieces to add to my own pdf collection of home made character record sheets, gm screens, house rules booklets, gm notebooks and so on. Today I would like to share part of my 0e CRSs with you, gentle readers! Hope this will be helpful.

The first and most interesting character record sheet I will present is the one used at TSR around '75, and available at The Acaeum. Falconer at the ODD74 Boards has made a great reproduction, that is available through this thread along with other pretty cool character record sheets.

Then, there is the first published (by TSR) character record sheet from 1977. This one was scanned by grodog and made available on the Knights & Knaves Alehouse forum in this thread. It looks pretty cool, and features additions from the supplements I to III:

Speaking of modern sheets, my two favorites are definitely the ones that Lester B. Portly made for jmal's Dwimmermount and Blair's Planet Algol campaigns. They look very fucking cool, and I know Lester has included one for Carcosa in his infamous Carcosa Deluxe Boxed Set (although I wasn't able to find it on the net).

I would love to have one by Lester for Supplement VII... *__*

Also, John Miskimen at Embrace the Dungeon! deserves a special mention for his amazing OD&D Character Sheet, which can be downloaded from his ImageShack page right here, along with an awesome OD&D Screen:

By the way, these were long time favorites, until I found this site. God, look at that! Dozens of Character Sheets hand-drawn nearly 30+ years ago! That's awesome! Take a look to this one, my new favorite:

You know, game supplies are like porn for me.
