An Overview of the Forbidden Isle

The Forbidden Isle of Doom lies somewhere between the Prime and the Astral Plane, and exists simultaneously on numerous worlds. It is told that the Isle was first located on Earth, but none can confirm that. Someone even claimed that the Isle is sort of a dimensional gate and that a person leaving could find himself in another reality, very different from the one he came from. For example, a Carcosan man could be shipwrecked and find himself on Algol or the Flanaess, after leaving the Isle. Anyway, no one has ever succeeded in such a quest.

The Isle is unearthly and dangerous. There are no seasons there, for the sun is always hidden by clouds, and the temperature changes at random. Thunderstorms are very frequent, except in the northern desolation where lies The Nameless City. However, thanks to their Father Dagon, the inhabitants of Yusshut actually get some periods of sunlight enabling them to go fishing, and the mist that is so dense on the border is a little less thick there. There are a few interesting places on the Isle:

• The Nameless City: The Nameless City lies in the very center of a grey desert of ash and salt. It is the alien city described by H. P. Lovecraft in his story of the same name (including the city of the serpent-men that lies beneath his palaces and temples). Reaching the Nameless City is sort of an epic quest, and so far no one has ever arrived there.
• The Purple Plateau: The West side of the Isle is occupied by a vast, seemingly endless plateau of purple soil. No one is known to live there, except for the various abominations that haunt those desolate lands. The Mi-Go once had a scientific outpost there, which now lies in ruins.
• The Thundering Doom: Within the steep, sharp nameless mountains of the Isle is an active volcano, known as The Thundering Doom. A tribe of malformed, morbid subhumans live there, worshipping it as a god. At some stage, someone may claim that The Thundering Doom is allergic to cheese (the veracity of this is left to the DM).
• The Jungle of Kippah: This vast jungle is the most densely populated place on the Isle. It can be divided in three zones: the northern (where White Apes live), the central (where the Tcho-Tchos live) and the southern (where the primitive humans live). The vegetation of Kippah is weird, living, multicolored, alien and, above all, very dangerous.
• Kandahal: Kandahal is a cyclopean, alien city, accessible only from the sea. It is trillions of billions of aeons old, and architecturally inconceivable. A person could easily go mad just by looking at its unbelievable corners, overawed by its unearthly super-symmetry. There, in the miles of long tunnels beneath Kandahal, among the nightmarish creatures that wait in its halls and chambers, lies the secret of the Ancients and the key to leaving the Isle.
• The Black Monolith: At the very centre of a desolate plain, lies a black obelisk one hundred feet high and covered with strange symbols. Part of it is an alphabet that can unveil the secret language of the Ancients, but not without risk. The Monolith, in fact, is made of a strange, radioactive mineral.
• Tower of the Re-Animator: Here lives Dr. Herbert East, the only civilized human on the Isle.
• The Dark Forest: This dense forest is haunted by the terrible Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath, and possibly by The Dark Mother herself. The peasants of Yusshut seem to have some sort of an amulet enabling them to walk through and leave the forest unharmed.
• Yusshut: Once known as Innsmouth, Yusshut is a little village of Seablood fishermen. They actively worship Dagon, Hydra and their spawn, and are always in need of victims for their hideous ritual sacrifices.
