- Personal Taste: This approach is probably not an option, since I really like almost any version of D&D from the original to second edition advanced D&D, with the possible exception of LotFP (don't like the skill system and the general approach).
- Total Neutrality: I could make Yaqqothl totally edition neutral. This would mean eliminating many of the actual references or instead using the most common ones (i.e. 1st and 2nd edition AD&D). This one could really be the solution.
- Extensive Playtest: I could run multiple one-shots using different systems and combinations (OD&D, S&W, LL, LL + AEC, MF, OSRIC, AD&D 2e and even LotFP) to work out the one that works best with Yaqqothl. In doing so I would compile a list of "Universal House Rules" to keep at least the core ideas intact (i.e. every weapon deals 1-6 dmg, revised attack table, limited spell lists and so on). This could be a great experience, and I could get in touch with numerous players as well. Unfortunately, it would take a long time to do so. Maybe I could limit the playtest to the more interesting choices (i.e. OD&D, S&W, LL and possibly LotFP).

On Rulesets & Compatibility
One of the issues I'm facing in writing material for Yaqqothl is the choice of a ruleset. Should I develop it for OD&D? Or maybe for Swords & Wizardry? Maybe I could go with Labyrinth Lord (especially now that Realms of Crawling Chaos is out) or even Mutant Future or OSRIC? It is obvious that all of these system are, to a certain degree, cross-compatible, but it's my belief that different choices require different approaches and different formats. For instance, I wouldn't come out with a digest saddle-stitched book if planning to create an OSRIC supplement. I can think of three possible solutions to solve this problem:
