french open
The women’s game for the French Open 2009 is more open than it has been for a number of years, and the lack of a dominant player means that there are several big contenders for what promises to be a great Roland Garros.
Since gaining the World No.1 ranking in 2008, Roland Garros finalist Dinara Safina has been in great form on the claycourt, picking up two the titles in Rome and Madrid compiling a 14-1 record. Safina's booming groundstrokes and much improved movement have been too much for most players and she goes into the French Open full of confidence. Safina is the favourite with the bookies although she's still value at odds of 4/1 with Blue Square.
Ana Ivanovic has struggled somewhat since lifting the Roland Garros crown twelve months ago, allowing too many errors to creep into her rock solid ground game.
