Flag Day: Why June 14?
Monday, June 14, is Flag Day. The picture to the right is from the Library of Congress, called “The Birth of Old Glory,” by artist Percy Moran, from 1917.

The answer is there to why Flag Day is celebrated on June 14.
On that day in 1777, the Continental Congress approved the 13-star, 13-stripe design of America’s national flag.

Appropriately enough, Monday is also the beginning of qualifying week for political candidates in Florida.
Most have already filed paperwork in Tallahassee, or with local supervisors of elections, so they can raise and spend campaign money.
But from noon Monday until noon Friday, state and local candidates have to officially file their qualifying paperwork, or they won’t be on the ballot.
Federal candidates already had their qualifying week in April.
