Chaosium's Shadows of Yog-Sothoth |
The cover of Chaosium's
Shadows of Yog-Sothoth is, to me, the perfect representation of how a Mythos inspired megadungeon should look. I'm seriously thinking about writing a few pages on this topic, maybe using the brand new Realms of Crawling Chaos by Goblinoid Games. The scenery may be one of a long time desolate island, with the characters being shipwrecked during an unusually violent storm (remind you of something?). The island may be populated by Seablood, Subhumans and White Apes ruled by White Ape primitives, and this could be an excellent way to use all the cool races presented in Realms of Crawling Chaos. Nevertheless, this could be a fairly easy way to let the players choose whatever race they want (yep, even Dwarves, Elves and Hobbits!) to cook up a wonderful mash-up. Hell, I could even allow
Ghoul characters! Moreover, the very nature of an island makes it easy to place it wherever you want, be it Carcosa or The World of Greyhawk, or even play it alone (which is, so far, what I'm thinking). I've also found this pretty cool piece of art, presumably the same on used by Lester B. Portly for his infamous
Unofficial Planet Algol Character Sheet.
